First Aid at Work Training

 

Safewell’s three-day First Aid at Work course is suitable for people aged 16+ who might need to provide first aid by responding to a wide range of accidents, injuries and illnesses that they could encounter in their workplace. It is ideal for organisations whose needs assessment has identified a requirement for additional first aid training, such as having employees with a disability or a medical condition. This course also covers treatment for a variety of injuries and medical conditions.

First aid skills acquired

Learners will develop the first aid skills and confidence to help someone who:

is unresponsive and breathing

is unresponsive and not breathing, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)

is choking

is bleeding

is suffering from shock

has burns

feels faint

has been poisoned

has a head injury

First Aid skills continued

Learners will also be able to help a casualty who is having a:

seizure

heart attack, including the administration of aspirin

angina attack

stroke

asthma attack

severe allergic reaction

diabetic emergency.

has hypothermia or heat exhaustion

has an injury to a bone, muscle or joint (including spinal injuries).

Assessment & Monitoring

The course also includes information on:

assessing a casualty

monitoring a casualty

where to get help

electrical incidents

accident recording and reporting

the control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH).

Each learner receives a training pack including resources and ideas to help them practice the skills covered. Depending on the course the pack will have differnt content specific to the type of course attended. For the First Aid at Work courses the pack includes a course companion workbook, first aid manual.

Each course meets the requirements outlined in the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The HSE requires a set amount of contact hours that differs for each course. Learners must attend all sessions to be eligible for assessment, which is done by continuous observation and questioning during the course.

On successful completion of each first aid course, you will receive a certificate which is valid for three years.

The number and type of first aiders is determined by the risks in your business. To help, the HSE publish a useful guide in thier First at Work INDG214 Guide and Table 2 from this guide is below to help.

The courses runs from 9am until 4-5pm each day (depending on the course), with a lunch break between the morning and afternoon sessions. Refreshements are provided. At our training facility the courses are delivered in comfortable classroom setting with a practical area. All courses offers a practical, hands-on approach to first aid that delivers the skills and confidence to use first aid skills in a real life situation. For added reassurance, each learner is assessed throughout the course using a range of practical demonstrations, question and answer sessions, quizzes and engaging activities designed to coach and support them. To ensure you get the most effective and practical learning experience we limit group size to 12 people.

We can provide lunch for £10/head or bring your own lunch; there is a kitchen, cutlery, water boiler and a microwave.

Courses start End of Feb 2020, running each month in Wootton Bassett at our offices. 10 places per course and 10% discount on all courses booked before 29th February 2020.

The Independent school required a Health and Safety compliance audit and in particular a review of their departments specific risk assessments

The Timber saw mill company had only an in-house Fire risk assessment and understood that it didn’t adequately cover the fire risks of the business. They contacted Safewell for a Fire risk assessment from a competent Fire Risk assessor to identify what they needed to do to ensure the premises and also staff training was compliant for the fire risks that they had.

Risk Assessment and on-site H&S support for Waste Management company in Berkshire

The company had taken delivery of a new shredding machine, they contacted their Safewell retained H&S advisor to help them carry out a risk assessment.

Pre-Assessments for New Trainee Teachers
