Nick Evans

Nick Evans

Managing Director

Nick has worked in the health and safety industry for 20+ years. He formed Safewell because he wanted businesses to benefit from sensible and easy to understand occupational health, and health & safety advice. He is passionately driven to enable, coach and support the Safewell Team to deliver the very best service they can – which each team member can take personal pride in what they do.

He is a Chartered Safety Practitioner and in his spare time Nick runs Movewell Taekwondo and is a 5th Degree Taekwondo black belt. He also enjoys road cycling, strength and movement training, and spending quality time with his family. There is a real passion behind the reasons he created Safewell, but three reasons stand out:

  • To promote accessible, sensible and proportionate health and safety advice for all businesses
  • To change the image of health and safety consultants to dynamic and enabling professionals
  • To promote the high standards necessary to give competent health and safety advice

Recently Nick was awarded ‘Wiltshire Business Person of the Year 2019’ for Medium sized businesses (10-50 employees). This is an award he was humbled to received and is testement to the the hard work of the team who each day actively contribute to the vision and purpose of Safewell.

Occupational Health Director

Gail heads up our occupational health division and has worked for over 25 years in occupational health and safety, many of which in senior positions. Being dual trained in occupational Health, and health & Safety enables Gail to offer a unique service to our clients, which is second to none. Gail has a passion for Occupational Health and believes that good health is good for all businesses and healthier workplaces have better financial results.

In her spare time Gail enjoys the theatre, spending time at her holiday home and looking after her grandson.

Joy Forrest

Office Manager

Joy joined Safewell in 2012 after having a career break to look after her son. Joy is Safewell’s Office Manager and keeps everyone in check! As well as answering the phones and booking appointments she takes the lead in organising and managing all the medical records, which is no mean feat. Joy has a background in Sales and reception, which shines through when you are greeted by her on the phone. She also gets involved directly with occupational health customers, visiting new and existing customers to help ensure a tip top service. In her spare time Joy likes socialising with friends, reading and going to the cinema.

Karen Dixon

Bookkeeper and Assistant to the MD

Karen has worked with Safewell since 2015 as our Bookkeeper. in May 2019 we were pleased when she officially joined the Team as Bookkeeper and assistant to the MD. As she describes it she keeps the money flowing in & out! She is also the primary point of contact for accounts and credit control too. Karen has been bookkeeping for 11 years and is qualified to AAT level 4. Like everyone, Karen is an integral cog in the workings of Safewell.

Outside of work, she is a busy individual! Including being a local Guide leader, singing in a choral society, a Trustee for the local Sea Cadet Corp, a Director for two family run businesses and when she has time, sitting at her craft desk creating and sharing her love of papercraft.  The office does sometimes benefit from these times with birthday cards, Christmas & Easter gifts 🙂

Occupational Health Technical and Admin Support

I previously studied at University of Gloucestershire as a sport coach and development throughout university I worked as a swimming teacher. After University I went into care and was a leisure and wellness and co-ordinator which was rewarding. After caret I then went onto working for Nuffield Health working as an occupational health administrator and worked alongside nurses to provide health surveillance to clients such as BMW and McLaren (both cars and formula 1’s 😊, got to see inside both factories).

In my spare time I enjoy being a mum and step-mum to three boys and we love going on bike rides with our dog around Swindon. The boys love going on bike rides in the rain and to parks.

Debbie joined the Safewell admin team in May 2019. She brings extensive medical admin experience with her as well as a very friendly and professional telephone manner to meet and great our customers. Prior to Safewell Debbie worked for the NHS at GWH (Great Western Hospital, Swindon) working as a Medical Secretary for the Integrated Discharge Team, Ward clerk and the Cardiac team working for two Cardiology Consultants.  She then moved to Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS as Team Secretary to the Complex Intervention and Treatment Team who work with elderly people with Dementia, in that time Debbie helped organise AWP’s first Dementia conference.  I have also work for the Forensic Pathologist as Medical Secretary.

Michelle Jeal

Health and Safety Adviser

Michelle joined the Safewell Team in 2013. She has been working in health and safety for over 20 years and has experience working in enforcement within the public sector as an Environmental Health Officer and as a Health and Safety Consultant within private consultancies and large organisations. She also has qualifications in Food Safety Management and Fire Safety.

When not taxi driving her children to various activities, in her spare time Michelle enjoys; singing in the local choir, running, mountain walking and socialising with family and friends over dinner and wine.

Health and Safety Adviser

Helen joined Safewell’s Health and Safety Team in January 2016. She began her H&S career qualifying and working for 8 years as an HSE Inspector in the south west doing inspection, investigation, audit and enforcement work. This was in a variety of industry sectors with employers of all sizes as well as with major public sector employers, particularly local authorities, NHS Trusts and the MOD. She then left HSE specifically to broaden her knowledge and experience in facilities management and construction and worked as a Site Manager/H&S Advisor in education and housing for 9 years.

In her spare time Helen enjoys playing league squash and taking her two dogs out for long country walks.

David Pixton

Health and Safety Adviser

David is a member Safewell’s Health and Safety team. He joined in 2015 seeking career change and to meet Safewell’s growing demand for health and safety services.

He currently holds the NEBOSH General Certificate and is studying for the NEBOSH diploma.

In his spare time David is a 5th Degree black belt and former international champion in Taekwondo and enjoys early morning training and backgammon.

Steve Mercer

Health and Safety Adviser

Steve joined Safewell’s Health and Safety Team in September 2018. He began his working career as a Timed Served Apprentice as a Mechanical Engineer, before moving into Health, Safety and Environmental as a HS&E Adviser at a large Aerospace Manufacturer. His HS&E career then saw him move into another Aerospace and Automotive manufacturing company and has gained more than 15 years’ experience within HS&E.

He currently holds the NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ level 5 Diploma in Occupational, Health and Safety Management and is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) Degree in Occupational Safety, Health and the Environmental Management.

In Steve’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his 3 children, socializing with friends and family and going to the gym.

Donna joined Safewell’s Health and Safety Team in December 2019.

She began her career working in the financial services sector before moving into the telecommunications industry, working within compliance. Here she spent over 15 years developing, implementing and managing Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality management systems across multiple sites.

In her spare time Donna enjoys spending quality time with her family, walking and going to the gym, as well as playing the clarinet in a local concert band.

Sally worked as an registered nurse for seven years before making a career change to occupational health within the NHS. She joined Safewell in 2016 to broaden her training.

She is married with three children. In her spare time, Sally enjoys knitting and crochet with “assistance” from her three dogs and cat.

Mike Gatrill

Occupational Health Technician

Mike started with Safewell as an Occupational health technician in January 2017 and brings with him a wealth of knowledge from the world of personal training and sports therapy, with over 15 years experience. He has also worked for the NHS Out of Hours Service as a Co-ordinator which gave him invaluable experience working with many different medical cases that required the use of various resources to suggest the most appropriate care to those patients.  With many other roles that he has performed from care assistant to an RAF reserves serviceman and much more, Mike bring a wealth of experience and understanding to the Safewell team.

Occupational Health Technician

Ida joined Safewell in 2015 looking for a new challenge following a background in Health and Social Care. She is part of the Occupational Health Team and most of her time is spent with customers carrying out health surveillance for their staff at their places of work.

At home she has a small ‘zoo’ with a dog, chickens and a hamster; alongside the zoo she grows a bit of fruit and veg in the garden. She is also what somebody might call an obsessive DIY’er and enjoy all sorts of creative activities. Her other interests include cooking, keeping fit and healthy, travelling and spending time with family and friends.

Matt joined Safewell as an Occupational Health Technician in November 2019. Prior to this Matt spent three years as a Leisure and Wellness Coordinator where he looked after the health and wellbeing of elderly residents. This allowed him to develop a versatile skill set whilst also achieving a Level 2 award in supporting activity provision in social care. Matt began his career path in the health industry after completing a degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from the University of Chichester in 2016.

In his spare time Matt loves playing and watching a range of sports and has a passion for travel and reading.
