Real Manual Handling in the workplace

Dec 12, 2017 | Health & Safety, Manual Handling

Problem to Solve

A packaging, storage, assembly and distribution company in WIltshire were seeking innovative ways of refreshing their employee manual handling trainign and skills as part of their on-going commitment to employee health and safety training.

Safewell had previously worked with them on other health safety projects including a site wide risk assessment and audit, knife safety training and their transport risk assessment / transport safety guidance.

Safewell Solution

As their retained health and safety adviser Safewell visited the client at their depot in order to assess the customer’s specific manual handling challenges. In addition to providing experienced guidance on safe manual handling practices, the Safewell team introduced their customer’s employees to wider concepts about the mechanics of how they use their bodies in daily tasks, giving them information on healthier living as well as safe manual handling. Customers who had previously had manual handling training said that they enjoyed the material and that it prepared them well for the work they did.

As part of the manual handling training the Safewell trainer goes with the employees into their place of work to look at some of the tasks performed and looks to offer specific real job manual handling tips and advice.
