Forklift Truck Medicals Required by Building Firm Near Reading

Mar 12, 2018 | Driver Medicals, Forklft Truck Medicals, Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Occupational Health Assessment

Problem to Solve

A building firm near Reading contacted Safewell enquiring about guidance on forklift truck medicals and what was required for their drivers. They had new and existing employees that both required medicals to be able to drive safely and within accordance of Health & Safety Executive (HSE) (HSG6).

Safewell Solution

After a discussion with Safewells Occupational health team, the customer agreed for Safewells Occupational Health Technician to provide fork lift truck medicals for its employees. The company could then meet the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) “Safety in working with forklift trucks” Guidance (HSG6). This outlines the guidance for forklift truck drivers to have medicals at prescribed intervals.
Safewell advises as good practice to complete a forklift driver medical at the beginning of employment. (or at least at commencement of a driving role), at the age of 40 and regularly thereafter. Anybody over 65 is recommended to complete such a driver medical on an annual basis.
