The energy solutions company was due for its annual Audiometry and Hand Arm Vibration medicals (HAVS) for another year. These are provided by Safewell’s occupational health department. The medicals help determine if any major changes have occurred to the employees’ health and what the potential cause could be.
Safewell Solution
During one of the medicals, a member of staff was found to have a severe case of H.A.V.S (Hand-arm vibration syndrome), caused by extensive use of vibrational tools over a period of years. Safewell’s occupational health technician referred the employee for a H.A.V.S. level 4 referral to an OHP. The OHP (Occupational Health Physician) conducted a series of thorough tests to establish the severity of the condition and determine the appropriate course of action going forward for their employment. Restrictions were placed on the employee by Safewell’s occupational health technician to protect them from further harm until the assessment had been completed and the appropriate diagnosis determined.
